- Assistant Director of Business Development and Strategic Alliances

Description:We are searching for an Assistant Director of Business Development and Strategic Alliances to join our Applied Science and Innovation team. This role will focus on building, leading, and managing a successful contract proposal capture process. The key performance indicators for this role will include total dollars submitted, awarded, and win rate (% of proposals funded). Specifically, the role will involve working closely with PI's to identify, plan, prepare, and submit proposals in response to customer-driven request for proposals (RFPs).
The Role:
· Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Applied Science and Innovation, you will build a standardized process that includes requirements tracking and integration with input from all relevant units (i.e. PI, finance, quality, EH&S, program management, etc.).
· Development of updated standardized documentation and templates will be an expected outcome.
· Opportunity identification and customer cultivation will be necessary.
· External customer contact interactions would include scientific and business leads in companies, foundations, government agencies, NGO's, and university research labs.
· Internal customers include faculty and staff who will take on the research contracts. Internal process partners typically include communications, sponsored projects, finance, IP, VPR and Development.
· You will be expected to participate in continual improvement projects and take on responsibility for developing and implementing management control functions necessary for growing the enterprise.
· You may also be expected to develop and lead educational seminars for the benefit of internal customers and process partners and participate in external business development events.
· The individual in this role may undertake and participate in grants and contracts submissions as PI, CO-I, or key personnel as appropriate.
· Role requires some travel and some work outside of standard office hours.
Our Ideal Candidate:
· PhD degree in scientific/engineering field with 3-5 years of relevant experience, or
· Master's degree with 5-7 years of experience, or
· BS degree with 10+ years of relevant experience
· Successful grant/contract writing experience
· Scientific publication authorship/co-authorship experience
· Track record of grant/contract proposal development and wins preferred
· Experience in customer management for contract research/science preferred
· Experience in infectious diseases, in vitro, and in vivo lab work preferred
· Understanding of translational science/device/diagnostic/therapy R&D and regulatory process preferred
· Existing network of relevant customer contacts preferred
